Lyrical 'Mishears'

April 14, 2011 10:02PM | Lyrical 'Mishears'
I was just listening to 'In Hidden Places', not paying too much attention and did a doubletake when I heard "Enemies from grade school, kicking at my brain". I also recall someone posting on the forums for Baboon: "I've got very little money left and I've got no cents", which cracked me up.

Anyone else hear wacky things that aren't really the right lyrics?

Teenage World - "Sick and tired of wondering what your presents mean". I thought it was "...what your presence means" before I read the lyrics. Not that wacky, sorry.

O curas hominum! O quantum est in rebus inane!

Not wacky is fine too!

When I first heard Autoclave, I thought the chorus was "My heart's an ark", since the word autoclave almost fades away into the instruments.

EDIT: That was, of course, without knowing the title yet.

"in my Spiraling notebook".

I always hear this lyric as a reference to the progressive rock band Spiraling. I imagine this notebook has Tom Brislin's smiling face on the cover and hearts drawn all over it. ("Oh Tom Brislin you're so dreamy! <3"winking smiley

Posted this in the AED thread. Initially misheard the opening line to "Prowl Great Cain" as "Gather two wolves from graveyards".

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

Either I'm a n00b and the mayonnaise thing is a joke from long before I was on the forum (which is very likely) or I'm just unobservant... could someone explain it to me? (or I could just pretend I know what's going on for the sake of not looking stupid)
April 16, 2011 03:33PM | Re: Lyrical 'Mishears'
From what I can make of it, someone misheard the words "not if I saw it with my own eyes" as "not if I saw it with mayonnaise," a rather bizarre pronunciation to say the least. From there it became the stuff of forum legends.
