Lyrical 'Mishears'

August 26, 2012 09:09AM | Re: Lyrical 'Mishears'
Listening to a live version of Marduk T-Shirt Men's Room Incident, and apparently those stray syllables were gurgling, not for Goebbels.

Six years of my life have been devoted to "Frost on the sidewalk, quiet as a bum," as, like, separate ideas. Alas, the devastation hit me today when I heard the right lyric and it seemed infinitely more normal.

But in the long tresses of your hair I am a battling frog.

I thought it was "battling frog" for the longest time!
I always imagined a frog in Roman Colosseum style armour holding his sword up high.
My mental justification for it was "because you're not allowed to cry when your're a batteling frog"

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHAT?

I always thought it was "your wolves", because of the line "wait for the wolves to keep their promise" in Age of Kings. That makes way more sense, because of the idea that the narrator's betrayal to evil.

Where in "Age of Kings" do you hear anything about wolves keeping promises? Another misshear possibly? There's a line about wolves in the hallway gaining ground.

I mentioned this in the new TY thread... it's not an actually misshear but my girlfriend pointed out how much "babble on and on" sounds like "Babylon and on".

(Ohai first post)

"Now I taste jazz men on my tongue" - of course, I realised instantly that it was a mis-hear, but it doesn't stop my brain from interpreting it as that and always causes a wry smile.

My brain also insists on hearing "My heart's on autoplay", despite knowing full-well the actual lyric.

Winner of many a hard-fought bottle.
