Mountain Goats tab request thread!

April 03, 2010 12:20PM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
Can anyone tab out that solo-ish part of the album version of Deuteronomy 2:10? Or just the gist of it?

It's not with the tabs on the wiki (which sound 100% accurate, btw), and I'm not that musically inclined.

Could somebody figure out the chords for Song for an Old Friend? Specifically for this performance, though. I can get bits and pieces, but what I can tab still has holes in it.

Please please please and thank you smiling smiley

it's actually in some tuning I don't remember but Prayers and Tears manage it in standard tuning

How glad I am to be a fan of a band where the musicians care about fans who'd like to learn their songs. Spot on!

Also, I'm glad to be a fan of a band who uses a default san-serif text font for their forums. It's clean and surprisingly easy to read!

Can someone please tab JD's cover of One Fine Day? I really want to play it but I'm not good with the tabbing thing yet. Thanks so much!

Erggggh! I've been trying to tab Alpha in Tauris but I can't for the life of me figure it out. I think the second note is D. I think part of the difficulty might be that the recording's about a half step up as it used to be with the tape recordings. Can anybody help a sista out?

Real quickly: it's (more or less) tuned a whole step down. From there, the main riff is just a D to a D6 (hold the D chord shape and put your pinky down on the 4th fret, G string). The verse is G, then the D-D6 riff, and it ends with A (going to Aadd2, which is just continuing to put your finger down on that 4th fret) and G.

There's a slight variation at the end of the song, but this should get you through it. If I get the chance I'll do it up properly on the wiki.

Thanks you so much!!! Tehee! I was right about the D. I'm not a complete imbecile smiling smiley

I would like to posit the following: There is currently no tab for Handball on the wiki. There are only two chords and I'm pretty sure the first one is C. So if anyone would like to help me out with that second one, I would be grateful.

Secondly, this one's a little different, but the tab for FM has the chords "Dis" and "Gis" in it and I don't know what those mean, exactly. A cursory google search mainly revealed people not knowing how to spell "this." If anyone knows what those mean, I would also appreciate that help.

Thanks!

Gojam Province is up.

I don't know if it's kosher to put up piano sheet music (might be a publishing issue), but if people are interested and it wouldn't be a copyright violation, I could probably make that happen.

I would actually be very interested in this. E-mail is in my profile.

Actually, Handball is played in E, but John's guitar is tuned down a step and a half on the recording, so it sounds like C#. You can either play C#, F#, and G#, or actually tune down and play E, A, and B.

The second question was already answered, but it's worth mentioning that John played FM in the key of F at Zoop. It's in Eb on Sweden, but since I can't find any other live recordings, I'm going to make an educated guess and say that it's supposed to be played in F and that he was tuned down a whole step on Sweden.

I've actually got a little time at the moment, so I'll see if I can't do some wiki-updating.

John plays FM in the key of F in the two other non-Zoop bootlegs I have. True story. I didn't even notice that until now.

I usually try to learn songs by ear, but sometimes the tuning is weird, or, like in alpha incipiens, it's just a tad out of tune on the recording so it's hard to get it right. So, when I'm unsure of myself I usually use Ultimate Guitar. They have a lot, but not some of the more obscure and early songs. For that, just google it. A wiki tab usually comes up on the first page.

That's what I meant by the wiki. Sorry, I was a tad inarticulate.

It's not out of tune, it's tuned down two whole steps.
