Awesome dude. I'm only just beginning guitar playing and still not good enough to do anything. This is just one of my favorite songs ever. Thanks again!

Almost the whole Beautiful rat sunset transcription is available:

seven tabs (minus Song for Cleomenes) including two attempts that deserve to be improved (Song for Mark and Joel and Seeing daylight)

Thanks for the tips beatoloh, I'm not sure if you'd like to put the tabs on the wiki or what. Seems like some could use a little work with chords and all but the old ones are always hard. John probably can't play some of 'em.

Like "Alpha Gelida", this wasn't really a request but with all the talk about "New Britain" lately I decided to transcribe it for the proper tuning. I updated the wiki to have the new (old) tuning and chords.

"Standard Bitter Love Song #1" anyone?
June 13, 2008 08:06PM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
many thanks for the other franklin bruno tabs beatoloh! greatly appreciated.

and one of the lyrics you'er missing is "like an unanswered prayer to st.jude" from "in a sourceless light". just for fun, no real need to update it: the chords are what matters here.

st.jude being the patron saint of the hopeless (from memory...). cool line, that.

If someone could tab Nova Scotia that would be great. I love that song.

Think I figured it out on my own: D A G

And that's about it. Holding the G twice as long as the others.

No, I Can't is tabbed correctly here but just a little unclear.

Em -> C
needs to be defined a bit more. The first Em is actually a 7th, and then goes to a 6th, then to the C. The best sounding way to do that is to play Em with an added note on the b string, third (then second) fret.

Otherwise it does not sound like the right song at all.

Bum Bum Buuum.

"Rockin' Rockin' Pet Store" anyone? The version over at themountaingoats.net sounds way off, at least if you play the chords on a keyboard.

Why's everyone in this thread a f***ing Mountain Goats fan?!

The tab on the wiki is how I play it, though I usually play it in G or D.

May sound like a stupid question, but how do you play it in G or D on the keyboard?

Cubs in Five, or Chicago Cubs as you put it, I don't believe is right...

I've been meaning to ask this, why is the song called "Cubs In Five"? I'm guessing it's some kind of football (or baseball?) lingo?

The Chicago Cubs is a baseball team. They have a 'curse' on them that hasn't allowed them to reach the World Series (which is the championship) since 1945. The Series is a best-of-seven series, so the first team to get four wins, wins the series. Cubs in Five says that the Cubs would win four of the first five games, thus winning the series. However, as the song states, this is unlikely to happen because of the curse.

Word.

quick clarification: song says nothing about any "curse," because its Cubs fan author does not believe in that nonsense. the Cubs have not been to the series since '45 because they have sucked, not because of any hoodoo. they are presently in 1st place and are tied with the Dodgers for the best record in both the National League and in baseball.
