Mountain Goats tab request thread!

Google keeps a cache of some of the tabs pages, so I whipped up a yubnub command for use while the site is down. Not everything is archived, so it's hit and miss. Make sure you use lowercase letters.

http://yubnub.org/kernel/ls?args=tmgcache

For example,
tmgcache idylls of the king
Going To Buffalo anyone?

I'm from Buffalo so I would really like to learn this one.

Also my Twitter name is @GoingToBuffalo. So that's a thing.

I would be grateful my children aren't here to see my posts,
If you'd ever seen fit to give me children.

Here's a hint: the guitar's tuned down, but he's playing in E.

I'm bumping this thread to make a note that the first chord in Outer Scorpion Squadron is Abmaj7.

Sometimes you need to not listen to an album for five months before these things become obvious.

There's nothing more obvious than an Abmaj7.

Has Lab Rat Blues been posted yet? I don't think that's on the wiki.

Heyo, so I was wondering if anyone could check over the tab on the wiki for Prowl Great Cain? I tried playing it and I really don't think it's quite right. Maybe it's me. Not sure.

It sounds right to me, apart from the Em in the bridge, which I think is an E7. Is there anything specific that sounds wrong about it?

Can anyone work out a tab or the chords to bride? Sadly, it's not on the wiki.

So I just found myself singing this while strumming the G, so I thought I'd give it a stab.It's probably about 85% right.

I don't feel like looking up chord names, but here's how I'm playing it right now:

G 320033
Em? 022003
C x32013
Am x02210

And for the chorus I play the Em? as 022033

Hope that helps, and if someone wants to verify/correct it and put it on the wiki, please do.

Ok, so the tab for Family Happiness online is pretty good, but the live version I’m in love with (Cow Haus ’98) is in a different tuning. He says so on the bootleg, and the song sounds more open as a result… any ideas, anyone? I’m assuming it’s an Open E of sorts, maybe?

Are there any alternative tunings of which JD is fond? Maybe he’s reusing it?

I'm thinking either Drop D, or dadgad, capo 2 to give it that open E feel?

The chords to Alibi are mostly right on the wiki, but some of them are wrong and the progression is off in certain places.

The chords in the song are as following:
E 022100
Am7 x02010
B x24442
C#m x46654
F#m 244222
A 022200

Order is like this,
Intro: E Am7 B x2
Verse: E C#m A F#m Bx2
Intro x2
Verse: x2
Chorus: E Am7 E C#m A B x1
Bridge Thing: E C#m A B x1
Intro: x1
Then it just repeats again for the second half of the song. As a note I'll put in here, for myself I throw in a B7 every once in a while to give it a more final resolution back down to the E and it kind of clashes with the record but it doesn't bother me that much when it's just me and the guitar.

Also there's a chord wrong in Ox Baker Triumphant on the wiki. The E that's in the bridge intro thing after the first verse chorus needs to be changed to a G because that's definitely wrong. Probably just a typo or something.

That makes an E7, though. Did you mean Am7 or E7?

Am7 my bad, I threw that up quick and didn't catch that apparently.

I'm a bass player anyway chords are foreign to me.

Been listening to Cry for Judas on repeat for an hour and I've almost got it transcribed.

This is how I hear it.

Verse:
A: 022200
Bm: x24432
D: xx023x
E: 02210

Chorus
A: 022200
C#m: x45560
F#m: 244222
D: xx023x

There's a bridge section that has two chords in it I can't quite put my name on. Also the in between chords between verses and for the ending sound like they bounce back and forth between an A and then an Asus2. Not sure if that's right for all of them though. Could be a sus4 at one point.

Now I'm just waiting for Lincolnic to tell me if that's right or not.

I have a terrible music ear, but for Bride I have:

G 320033
E7 x201xx
C x3201x
A7 xx201x

Sometimes he doesn't play the A7 or does a something a little different.

Chorus

G 320033
D? xxx233
C x3201x
A7 xx201x

I could be completely off but I think it sounds alright

Here's what I got.

Intro thing: Dsus4 D
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Uknown armies underneath the city,
D Asus4 A
Steam pushing up in billows near the grates,
Em G D G
Frankie Lyman's tracking seabreeze in a studio in Harlem,
D Asus4 A
It's nineteen sixty eight.
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Just a pair of tunes to hammer out,
D G Asus4 A
Everybody's off the clock by ten,
Em G D G D A D
The loneliest people in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again.
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Feel so free when I hit the avenue
D G Asus4 A
Nothing like a New York summer night
Em G D G
Every Dreams a good dream, even awful dreams are good dreams,
D Asus4 A
If you're doing it right
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Remember soaring higher than the clouds
D G Asus4 A
Feel pretty sad and little(?) now and then
Em G D G D A D
The loneliest people in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again.
Bm G D
Four hours north of Portland a radio flips on,
Em G G Asus4
And some no-one in the future remembers that you're gone.
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Armies massing in the dusky distance,
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Ghosted in the ribbon microphone,
Em G D
Leave a little mark on something maybe,
G Asus4 A
Take the secret circuit home.
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Nothing in the shadows but the shadows,
D G (Dsus4 ->D x4)
Reaching out to sad young frightened men,
Em G D G D A D
The loneliest in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again,
Em G D G D A D
Yeah, the loneliest people in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again.

The notes that it sounds like JD is using for that Dsus4 chord aren't what they normally would be.
It sounds like this
Dsus4 xx0032 -> D xx0232
Everything else seems to be the regular old chords JD likes to use.
