woah woah woah, Going to Spain is on the page i linked to?!?

edit: Woah yesss! I actually emailed the guy who runs the site asking about them a few days ago. He said they were up, but they weren't. He must've literally just added them, as i checked earlier today too. Seriously, i'm not just saying this to cover myself, he just added them. thanks for letting me know!

although, i think i'd play it without the capo but use the barred chords that correspond to that so maybe instead of:

G -> Bb
Em -> Gm
C -> D
D -> E

that's just because i don't think i've seen a Mountain Goats song ever that required a capo, you know?

not that yours is wrong obviously, it sounds great!

edit: would that D that I use (the barred) be a Dm to stay in the key of F, which i believe the song is in? (i'm kinda learning theory and am using the circle of fifths to assume this, so if i'm wrong or mistaken, let me know!) ...although the D does sound better.

actually, also, then there wouldn't be an E...hm, so maybe he did use a capo, since with that it all fits into G. woah. first time i've seen him do that.

there are PLENTY tMG songs that use a capo.
September 25, 2007 01:53AM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
haha really?

dang. nevermind then. none of the ones i've seen or played from that site at least say use a capo

(although i've been on a We Shall All Be Healed and All Hail West Texas binge lately)

it was actually 2 7"s btw and the mastering date was 5/1, I cancelled it this a.m.
This is why you should be nice to everyone.

rectifying my previous post, FTE's chorus sounds much better at DADGD.

Matt/Runningdog, you should tab out 15-1, so that JD has no excuse but to play it at next years zoop. winking smiley

Kinda on topic...
I noticed people talking getting chords from the site, beware, a lot of them aren't really accurate. It's best to take what you see on those kinds of pages and play them against the record.
For example, I just added what I believe the
chords for The Recognition Scene are... G A7 C G

The site says E F# A, which is the same basic pattern, and a lot of tabs are the same way. Which is fine, but you have to be aware of stuff like chord variations and licks and stuff, and a lot of (not all) tabs aren't.
That's just been my experience with all tab sites over the past five or six years, no offense to anyone involved with the wiki, it's awesome, but I just wanted to throw that out there for people.
A lot of guitarists I know use tab sites as the final authority on how to play a song, and that gets really annoying when they're doing it wrong.
September 25, 2007 11:23PM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
E F# A E always sounded more like the studio version of The Recognition Scene, listen to it and try to play G-A-C-G alongside it, doesn't sound as good.

Plucking the High E and going into E just sounds about right.

The live versions are definitely G-A-C-G though.

On that note, there are like 8 versions of No Children on the wiki (or other tablature sites) and they all kind of suck.
You just have to sift through and find the appropriate chords.

Listening to the record again, yeah, it seems to match up better with E, but it definitely is F#7.
Also, I have the lick down for playing it starting at G, but I can't quite figure out how to do it with the E version.
Also, I hear another chord change that I just can't figure out right now.
September 26, 2007 02:47AM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
Thought it's just E F#7 A E the whole song, but there could be some Asus4 and Asus2's or something thrown in.

I've tried to fix up a lot of the tabs on the wiki that seem to have chords gone wrong and that kind of thing, but haven't really made much of a dent. If anything seems off, maybe if you(not just dl5, talkin' everyone) could edit the title by adding '@#@' or something after the title and we can all try and fix it up.

I'm probably not going to really tab out all the licks and riffs and stuff though, I usually just try and give the most workable chords, aligned with the verses/chorus/bridge
September 26, 2007 02:56AM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
p.s. i'm not really really experienced with wikis, but it seems a good idea to not just erase someone's tab but add a new page, i feel like a bunch of people did this with 'in corrola', not even sure if the tab's correct at the moment.

and thx for the heads up about playing Recognition Scene in G too, 's nice to try out this way.

btw, the tab that's up isn't correct for in corrola. I have the right tab laying around here somewhere. i'll post it tomorrow. i'm 110% certain of a bm-flat5 in there that nobody has seemed to notice.

Yeah, I agree about just taking down other tabs.
I've only done it once, because I was 100% confident it was wrong. The person had figured out one riff and applied to the entire song, and that just wasn't right. But if you look, a lot songs have multiple interpratations on there.
Then again, it is a wiki, you should feel free to edit things if you have good reason to. No need to keep up a tab that really is completely wrong.
September 26, 2007 06:49PM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
in corrola, the way it should have been tabbed but wasn't:

E - D - A - A
E - D - A - A
C#m - E - F#m - B7
A - D - A - A

and as for the bridge, I love franklin for having written this, btw:

Bm - Bmb5 - A - Amaj7
Bm - Bmb5 - A - Amaj7
F#m - D - C#7 - F#m
A - D - A - A

How about.... Poltergeist?

I've kinda gotten to like it recently... can't figure it out for the life of me, though.

Hello all!

After lurking in the forum for an ungodly amount of time, this is the thread that finally forces me to come out of hiding and register:

Do any of y'all know how to play Blue Jays and Cardinals?
September 27, 2007 12:28PM | Re: Mountain Goats tab request thread!
I don't, and i think i recall John saying at some point that he didn't remember either, on account of it being in some weird tuning.

I may be thinking of another song though.

"bluejays and cardinals" is that song. Nobody knows how to play it and it's a shame.

It sounds like it's G Em C Am-D

at least for the verses, the chorus I can't nail down.
You also might have to tune down a bit to get it sounding right.

Thanks ^.^

I am extremely saddened, but for some reason, it gives the song a whole new mystique!

If we're still making requests...
Garden Song
I've got the first riff down, but when the chorus/chord part comes up I'm totally lost.
