thank you. i just knocked out an e-mail to danielle and nigel about everything also; i personally threw my hat in the ring for the 'watkins glen' title, but i do want to get a feel for what everyone else thinks. i'll also hold the song i did off until the second disc; being brutally honest, i didn't finish my own submission until after i already had to badger other people about it. i know it's difficult to get something like this to the degree that you're happy to submit it, and i'm still not 100% satisfied with my track.

what didn't catch my mindset originally was the fact that thanks to the interwebs, we can work on these songs with each other.. personally, i have someone who could add to a song i did and i could contribute to a 'doubling up' track, but it would definitely resound more brilliantly if people collaborated as tMG fans.

I'd rather just and get one huge volume done. Better for all of us to wait than some, right?

I did my submission with my band, and would be happy to do a second submission as my solo project.

I think it would work great as long as people doing a second submission just change things up a bit.

A good reason not to go with the title "Going to Watkins Glen" actually-- Starlingtattoo had a zine for last Zoop that was already titled that.

I think my vote would be for splitting them, not holding any tracks back, and maybe going for the collaboration idea on the second volume to keep things fresh and interesting and conceptual. I don't think we can really expect the remaining 16 songs to ever materialize (which I guess it would take 32 forum members to cover, if collaborating). Though might be awkward if some of them suddenly did materialize and wanted to be on the second volume...

... but SlowWestVulture's suggestion sounds good, too! Just tell the contributors to try making it sound a bit different, perhaps to use a different instrument than they used last time (presuming they only used one instrument, and that they have others to choose from). I wouldn't mind doing another (different sounding) song myself, and I should be able to get it done in time. I'm guessing the goal would then be to put together this thing before March 24th?

I like the Shadow Song title as a default (for obvious reasons) - and if we can fill it out to a full volume with a few people doubling up (with differences in style) and collabs and new folk it'd be better.

People already saying they'll pull OFF the first one when there's no details set for a second one is not a good sign for finishing soon and who knows if the current MIA people will ever make it. How many would we need to add to make it a nice full one set?

still for the shadow song reference too anyhow, MAYBE we can start a new thread for round two songs? The starting topic can be songs that have yet to be turned in... at which point, those of us who are interested can civilly pick and choose which we want to do and avoid names out of the had and etc. I'd say it would a fairly quick, painless procedure.


PS nutopia, i MIGHT be re-doing some of going to San Diego as well so If you get another email that the one that will be coming rather than the one you already have

i think it would super sweet to have it scanned since it was a one shot run and i would like a way to have it preserved. i never got around to mailing one to certain people who stated they wanted one too, which makes me sort of a tool, and now i have to find the like, three remaining copies that exist and do that, being reminded of it.
but yeah, if you would like to scan it and get that to me, i would be stoked to have it!

i figured i'd throw in my two cents..i'd rather release all the songs at once, but i would say top priority would be getting it out in time for tour, so i'm willing to do a collaboration with someone if it comes to that, but i dont really have a preference.

My only gripe is that we come up with a plan fairly soon. I'm all for democratic decision making, but this is taking really long.

Ok, here's two more of my cents. I like the concept of the Shadow Song lyrics, but it's kind of a dark (not that most aren't) and personal song. I was hoping to think of a different lyrics along the same lines that mention some sort of motion or geography, such as "maps in all directions" or "from here to singapore" or something.

Oh, "I have no place to go" from Jeff Davis County Blues would be good. That's my vote. "If I never get there at all" is a close second.


Edit: Also, this isn't letting me vote. I when I submit, it just says "you cannot vote repeatedly" and my vote doesn't show in the tally.

that poll didn't work. it kept saying "you can't vote repeatedly" even though i was just voting once.

my vote is against the "shadow song" titles because, like eivind said, they are way sad.

i'll also throw out "going to orland" again. that's where farm sanctuary's CA shelter is, and i prefer the obscure to the obvious when it comes to entitling.

i also vote for putting out what you have now, completion be damned. it's not like the album's gonna be grammy ineligible for lack of a "going to" or two.
