I don't want to cause a stink, and I know I'm only one of 40-some people involved in this but not including Going To Georgia just seems weird to me. I get that there was already an album of Georgia covers(which I'd like to hear if possible) but at the same time a Going To song is a Going To song and that's what this whole thing is supposed to be. It's not a big deal tho, just my two-cents on the matter.

At the same time I suppose adding one more song would give us an odd number then?

Ditto this: not a huge deal, but I think the whole project stands on it's own better with the inclusion of Georgia.

That said - thanks for putting this together, I'm really really excited!

Edit: Tapedeck - the "No Safety" album can be downloaded here (http://drop.io/nosafety) until Drop.IO goes away. It might be missing some of the late submissions, but there ya go.

I don't see how it makes a huge difference - especially since it's already been done a bunch of different times/ways. Lets some attention be paid to lesser-heralded songs this time around

I just think it's a little strange because it's going to be sold for charity and why not include that song for the sake of completion other than having every other person coming back five minutes later and and saying "Hey, why isn't Going To Georgia on this !?!" or "Why do the Going To songs if you're going to leave one out?"

I don't know. We did Port Washington on the last HWNtMG album. Should we not include that one then too?(That sounds douchey, but I mean it in a completely non-sarcastic tone)

I'm just wondering why the decision to omit it was made. I mean we could just make sure it doesn't go to someone that already did it on No Safety(Thanks by the way, dtrom) if that was one of the reasons. I'm not up in arms over this or anything. Just curious. As I'm sure some of the rest of us are as well.

Oh, and if nutopia's not going the video route (though I think that could be fun), this could save you some hassle in the selection process

The answer's a simple "Because there's a whole ALBUM of that right here...enjoy!" which hopefully spreads more music to more people and maybe encourages more donations. Again, it's not being sold in the traditional sense. People will know what they're getting and be able to listen to it, then make a gesture of support for FS.

Well in that sense if they make up some more copies of No Safety for donations(or at least a link to download it in the liner notes of this one) as well it'd definitely make more sense to me.

OK, again, I realize I don't have anything to do with this project, however, I have a simple question...

Are ALL of the Going to songs going to be on the comp except Going to Georgia? Cuz if that's true then I could see why people would want to include that one as well. I mean what would be the sense in that being the ONLY Going to song not on there?

BUT!

If the front page is any indication, then I don't believe ALL of the Going to songs are going to be included in the first place. So what does it matter if Going to Georgia isn't on there? Would someone be just as likely to say, hey, why isn't Going to <insert name of other Going to song not on the comp> as they would to reference Going to Georgia? (Yes, I realize that song is way more popular than some of the others, but still, you prolly catch my drift, ya know?)

If they can't all be on there, and we have another comp (No Safety) which is entirely that song, then it seems to make sense to me that maybe that one be left off. Unless ALL of the other Going to's are on there.

Ah. I see. See I took that as there were limited spots but only to limit the number of total tracks (see nutopia's comment about production of too many tracks) and that he was crossing the songs off on the first page as people were suggesting them.

But you may be totally right and I completely misunderstood.

If that's the case, then leaving it off makes no sense IMHO.

agreed about Georgia... its a beautiful song. if ANYTHING we could just leave it out of the lottery, and put up one of the arguably best Georgia covers on the Georgia album. right? a champion isn't just a champion when they earn the right, they gotta contend, word? i also say "its not my project, so i have no say so" but... yeah georgieee can still work!

maybe it's just the cynic in me, but I don't think it's entirely implausible to believe that some folks may drop out of this comp. It's not lack of faith, but law of averages. don't think of it as a comprehensive list of all the going to songs (because what about the ones not on tMG.net?) but a compilation of songs from the series.

Also, please don't name it hwntmg vol 2.

Great point. From what I recall, we had at least one dropout on HwntMG. I also agree that this compilation should get a new, unique name! Since it's technically the third forum comp, calling it "HwntMG vol. 2" would be taxonomically confusing (as well as a pain to say).

hey,

i'm sorry about the lack of an update. i'm working a thing or two out; new news soon.

as far as i know, we'll have a proper title (no vol. 2 or anything like that), but again, there's a couple things that are up in the air right now. i promise a concrete, news-filled update within the next day or two.

i did want to mention that i know some people will drop off/not fulfill their commitment. that's a necessary evil and something that i've been going over as far as solidifying the lottery process. it's something that definitely occurred during the last comp and was taken care of by some people doubling up in one form or another. i don't disregard this possibility, but at the same time i want everyone willing to participate to do so.

apologies for being so vague, but i want this to be as easy - and simultaneously as fun and inclusive - for all of us as possible.

i would like to inquire why, if there are upwards of twenty people willing and able to put a cover on a fan-compilation, are there so few people who post to the covers thread?

Because we are busy! And have no time to pull out all the stops like we tend to do for these things. And because nobody donates to charity in the covers thread? And because a number of the people who are participating in this wonderful endeavor are not terribly active in the forums anymore.

And some of us just plain can't sing, but are willing to do it for charity.

Because we're nice like that.
