Okay folks, it's that time again. Colin (acowkickedme) has passed on the baton to myself and nutopia for the next tMG comp. This will be another Hi We're Not the Mountain Goats work. If you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about, here is some background: [www.mountain-goats.com]

Just so we can get this done and together before the supposed spring tour, I wanted to get the ball rolling. The first tMG comp was all covers of "Going to Georgia" the 2nd was a lottery system where people chose a song and then received someone else's pick. Well, we would like to combine these for the third edition.

So, without further a do, welcome to HWNtMG - "Going to" a compilation of "going to" song covers (NOT INCLUDING GEORGIA) that will be randomly assigned to those who sign up. If you are interested in doing this, you will select a "going to" song which will be entered in the lottery. You will receive your assigned song mid-December and then have a little over a month to complete the song and send it to Nutopia who will compile them.

We'll take care of art work and packaging and then they will be "sold" (suggested donation - you give what you are willing) online or at the spring concert tour (and Zoop III?) with all funds raised going to tMG goat adoption fund: [www.mountain-goats.com]

not to uproot what danielle said, but easiest way to do this is to e-mail me directly at nutopia1213 at gmail dot com with your full name, handle, what you want to be credited as on the artwork, and song selection. at some point in the near future we'll note a point when the cutoff will be, and then again when the cutoff is happening, and then a couple days afterwards to allow stragglers.

i will throw all the suggestions into a hat (probably metaphorically, it might be figured out mathematically or i might throw them into my beaten up fedora, either way) and you will receive another going to.. song to cover. we're working with a semi-lengthy amount of time but it's not indefinite, so please submit ASAP. again, you will not be covering the song you provided, so get accustomed to the idea of covering a random 'going to' song.

none of this is profit to either of us, i assure and implore you, so any money that this involves will go directly to farm sanctuary. given the last monetary debacle, i speak for myself and (i hope) danielle in saying that we will post status updates along the way to let you know what's going on as far as this project goes. NOTHING we put out for the production of this will be recouped, every dollar will be put towards FS.

I was just thinking of how another one should start soon, just wasn't really sure how to get the ball rolling. So fantasmical timing, you guys!! We should have a subtitle based on the subject matter of the Going to... series (which was a perfect choice for the new format!). Like HwNtMG, Vol. 2: blahblahblah


Hmmm...I actually picked a "Going to" song for inclusion in the last one, now I'm torn between picking a different one to keep things fresh or making sure one of my favorite tunes makes the cut. I'll think on this one a while.

Despite a. never having done anything like this before and b. only playing woodwinds, I'd like to request "Queens" if I may? Should be a neat challenge to work something out within those constraints.

I just copied off the mountain-goats.net site. Guess Nall is slippin' I'll add it and then strike it off the list if you email it in!

Please be aware that you may submit that song but you might not get it. It is a lottery system, so someone will record it, but the fun is getting a song you might not be famialir with and then making it your own.

nall isn't slipping because of that, you just copied from the going to section and didn't account for Flight 717 or Alpha Double Negative. For some series' they have separate categories altogether compiling them.

I am super excited to hear a wood wind version of tMG! Remember, this is a great excuse to get friends together and makeup a band for the recording! Just remember this is a lottery, so you will probably not end up with "Queens" but I'm sure it will still be awesome regardless of what you throw together!
