HA!

(just put it on hold at the library, btw. thanks for the sugg.)

i been reading greil marcus stuff. boring review type things, one of the doors, one of van morrison. i skipped a lot of pages. made me listen to the doors and van morrison again though, great stuff. currently giving his "invisible republic" a shot. i assume invisible republic will make me listen to all the basement tape stuff again too. good enough.

also read tony iommi's autobio, it wasn't as good as ozzy's, but it was fine, i finished it. also read nick mason's autobio "inside out," pretty good floyd accounting, but nothing new really. what else.

two books by peter martin. his "landsmen" book was j. d. salinger's favorite book. it was the first of a trilogy, the second being "the building." but peter martin died after the second book. no trilogy afterall.

i think that's it for now.

I read Thomas Pynchon's Mason & Dixon about a month ago, which: maybe one of the greatest things I've read; after that I read Vonnegut's Mother Night, which made me cry real tears; re-read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (memories fond, sheen worn away this time) and The Crying of Lot 49, which contains a million worlds; and just finished, about ten minutes ago, The Great Gatsby, which I'd never read and which has made me very sad. (True Fact: I did not read one page of required reading in high school; only recently read The Scarlet Letter at twenty-four.) Probably going to read As I Lay Dying next, but not until I read the new Wonder Woman, which you should be reading, too.

yep.

it's a shame this forum doesn't have a [spoiler] function because i really want to spew forth about these little references...

i'll only say that there are, so far, crossovers involving Pemulis and Hal that i hadn't even considered. Has anyone sat down and, like, mapped everything out? The links, the locations, etc?

That would be a big job.

ETA: (ha...i feel that this acronym takes on a wonderful new meaning)

what i enjoy most about this book are the scenes that take place at the academy. the dialogue and narration surrounding Hal, Pemulis, Troetsch etc. are brilliant to read.

I'm reading Haruki Murakami's 1Q84. I loves me some Murakami but this one is a little unusual, even by his standards. This is like the eighth book of his that I've read and he really recycles a ton of weirdly specific material between books to the point that I want to make a Murakami bingo card. Intertwining protagonists, talking cats, author protagonists, everyone is an expert on jazz and/or classical music, 30-something protagonist has platonic relationship with an offbeat teenage girl, prostitute with a heart of gold, and women with strange psychic premonition. Basically yeah, just read one of his books already!
