May 23, 2007 Registration for Farm Sanctuary Event Now Closed
Hi everybody. Just a quick note to report the following, per the magnificent Joan at Farm Sanctuary:
ZOOP! is sold out! Everyone who has already completed the online registration form will be e-mailed with some type of confirmation by the end of this week. Anyone who is still on the waiting list as of Monday, May 28 will be informed no later than June 12 as to whether more space has become available. As much as Farm Sanctuary would like to be able to accommodate everyone that is interested, fire codes are fire codes, and we're now at capacity. They will not be able to accommodate any guests that arrive but that have not received a confirmation e-mail telling them that they are in fact registered attendants. Farm Sanctuary is extremely grateful for the huge show of support for ZOOP! If anyone has questions, please e-mail Joan directly: jgusic@farmsanctuary.com.
Additionally, if you registered but aren't going to be able to make it, please let Joan know so that she can make more spots available. If you were hoping to come and didn't get registered, please don't fret! You-all may have noticed that I've been doing more charity & open events over the past year or so, and I hope to continue with this trend.
Thanks everybody for the frankly overwhelming show of support for this thing!
May 4, 2007 Summer in Chicago
Who can resist? We're playing a benefit at the Metro with Superchunk and a super-special unannounced guest on June 20th. Here's Merge's post about it which tells you all you need to know. We ardently hope that by this point the Cubs will be playing .500 ball, but are not getting our hopes up or anything.
May 1, 2007 Two Other Upcoming Shows
This is only two shows, one of which has been listed on the tours page for a while - people who want to be as up-to-the-minute as possible might wanna bookmark that page, as when I don't feel up to writing something longer, I'll sometimes just put a date up there kinda message-in-a-bottlelike.
So yeah. There's that one, the Local 506 party. Peter will be coming down & it'll be an old-school duo set. Then there's the below-mentioned Sound Fix set, which will also be a blast. That one'll be a solo set. Finally, there's this thing here, discussed on the forums over the past week or so and now REVEALED!! to the world at large.
WAHT: two solo sets by your humble narrator, namely me, probably unamplified either in a barn or outside. There will also be a solo set by Peter Hughes, and another from the estimable Mr. Perry Owen Wright.
WHEN: June 16th and 17th, 2007, around 8 p.m.
WHERE: Farm Sanctuary, Watkins Glen, NY
HOW MUCH: there is no admission charge. We are asking for a ten dollar donation at the door, since the two reasons I am doing this are 1) I love you people and 2) I love Farm Sanctuary. If you can give more, please do. I am still batting around the idea of a fan-constructed set where you give more donations the deeper into the back catalog you go. That set would probably be on Sunday.
WHERE'M I GONNA SLEEP, JOHN? There is space for camping at the farm. You gotta bring your own camping gear! Parking is extremely limited so carpooling is strongly, enthusiastically, can't-stress-it-enough encouraged.
WHAT IS UP WITH FARM SANCTUARY ANYWAY? Farm Sanctuary rescues animals from all kinds of situations and gives them a place to live out the natural terms of their lives in peace and tranquility. They are a vegetarian organization, which leads me to a somewhat delicate point: out of respect for the animals & the organization that's being good enough to let us do this, we request that you not bring any meat snacks to chow on. Nobody's gonna pat you down at the door or anything, but please come in a spirit of love and respect - it's only a night or two without meat, even when I was a big-time carnivore I gave up meat for lent, and that was 40 days, not two. Thanks in advance for this, I know it is an unusual request!
Any and all questions about further specifics of this event should be addressed to Joan Gusic: farmsanctuary @ gmail.com (copy, paste, remove the spaces). Asking John for technical or organizational details is like asking a guy who's never been in the army to serve as commander-in-chief of the armed forces during wartime, and who'd wanna do something like that?

I played a solo set when Sound Fix was brand new, and it was a blast, so why wouldn't I wanna do the same now that they're re-opening the cafe? They sure did have good Lapsang Souchong last time I was there.
The deal goes down on May 11th. Details here. See y'all soon!
